Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) in Depression and Anxiety

If you have depression or anxiety, have you noticed that your symptoms are worse during 1-2 weeks before your period?  If you say yes, then your PMS may be the trigger here.

When we look at your overall mood, it tends to depend on a number of factors.....

1 Your genetics....eg family history of anxiety and depression.
2 Your personality eg are you a perfectionist or do you have a emotional personality?
3 Are there a lot of environmental stress in your life?
4 Do you consume drugs or alcohol?
5 Do you have a physical or organic illness eg sleep apnea, hypothyroidism, PMS, menopause etc?

What Iam trying to highlight here is that depression and anxiety have many factors or "triggers", and PMS is just one of them.  So if you have depression or anxiety, be mindful next time during your premenstrual period.  Are your symptoms worse?

Being aware of this can help you to accept things better during this period, or see your Doctor to explore other treatment modalities.  Change what we can, and accept what we cannot.
