Depression, Anxiety, and Over The Counter Medications

If you have depression or anxiety, and uses over the counter medications, there are a few things you need to be mindful of the next time you visit your local chemist.

1 Sedating antihistamines may cause drowsiness and hence, may exacerbate your low mood.
2 Decongestants like pseudoephedrine may exacerbate your anxiety and insomnia due to its stimulant effects.
3 Antiinflamatories like ibuprofen may interacts with some antidepressants to cause stomach irritation and ulcers.
4 Mild narcotics like codeine may cause sedation and drowsiness and hence, may exacerbate low mood.

The above is not an exhausted list, so always speak with a Pharmacist regarding your condition and any other medications that you are taking currently.  They can then advise you accordingly.
